Working with the Young Ones - DVD
(PAL formatted to suit Australian T.V.'s/dvd players)
Running time - 60 minutes

Working with the Young OnesIn this DVD Frank works with three young horses, a 4-month-old appaloosa, a yearling colt who had been traumatised as a baby, and
an aggressive 2-year-old stallion that is notorious for biting.

The 4-month-old appaloosa is Frank’s first challenge. Frank demonstrates and explains how to best contain such a youngster as their first lesson with a human begins. Using only twine, then soft cotton rope Frank teaches this youngster the basic principles of pressure and release, yielding to pressure, and basic leading.

Desensitizing plays a big part in this youngsters first lesson. Frank pays
particular attention to getting this young horse accustom to having his legs touched and his feet picked up. All this is achieved using the most gentlest of methods.

Frank also demonstrates how we can teach our young ones to feel comfortable having their face, mouth, nose, eyes and ears touched (this is all preparation for things to come later in their lives). By the end of the session this youngster is happily wearing a rope halter and displaying forward movement when prompted.

An Arabian yearling colt traumatised as a baby is Frank’s next assignment. This yearling is very distrusting of people and gender sensitive. Frank teams up with an adept horsewoman to succeed in getting this young horse to "hook on" and boost his confidence in himself and in the human.

Learn how to apply non-confrontational techniques to help you on your way to win the trust and friendship of very nervous or spooky horses. Foot handling, pressure and release, and proper respect are well explained and demonstrated.

Frank’s final challenge is an aggressive and very spoiled 2-year-old stallion. This stallion is notorious for biting and has little respect for humans. These issues are addressed as Frank takes this horse through the first 6 steps of his 7-Step Safety System and prepares this horse to ride. When this stallion goes to bite, Frank draws on his "V-thinking" theory to reprimand the horse accordingly.

The importance of getting a horse to respect the handlers space is clearly explained and demonstrated here, so too is Frank’s concept of the “black and white zone”. By the end of the session, the horse is exhibiting vastly improved behaviour. His movement is rational and he is clearly inviting the ride. The techniques that Frank uses on this horse are also applicable to
pushy horses.

"Frank Bell is one trainer in this field whose dedication stands above the rest. His 7-Step Safety System of horse gentling is geared specifically to the safety of horse and handler. He is not only a seasoned trainer, he also cares deeply about his work."

I just wanted to say how totally impressed I am with the dvds I have seen so far, I have had a few issues with my TB horse Freddy nothing too drastically serious but never the less we both lost a bit of confidence along the way, I have watched and rewatched your 7 SSS, and communication in the saddle, it all makes so much sense, so as soon as I feel I have the exercises truly planted in my mind I shall start then with all what you advise. Thanks again for the easy way of explaining things so clearly.

Cris Magnabosco

Hi Libby,
Cris won another ride with your halter and equipedic saddle pad. What a way to celebrate your 60th birthday. He destroyed the field winning 81 km race by over an hour. Not only winning heavyweight division carrying 101.5 kilos but also best overall time. There were 105 horses in the ride. It was very hot and humid and hard to keep the horses body temp down.
